The Tech Giant is Coming! Google Expands into Sunnyvale

Google has been buying up land in the Moffat Park area in Sunnyvale, with plans for turning old, low-density buildings into a bright and innovative new Google campus and mixed-use development. Their most recent purchase of the former Onizuka Air Force Base only adds to the 50+ properties the tech giant has already purchased. Here’s what Google plans for its expansion into Sunnyvale.

Google Expands into Sunnyvale, and Here’s the Plan

Google plans to build over 1 million square feet of office space in the Moffat Park area of Sunnyvale—bringing about 4,500 jobs google expands into sunnyvale with bikeable buildingsto the area by 2021. But this won’t be like any other Google campus; two striking new buildings will feature an innovative parklike ramp allowing employees to walk, bike, or even skate up to any level of the building.

Bikeable Buildings?

That’s right! In plans released December 2017, Google has designed a completely new style of community for its two new Sunnyvale offices (situated at 100 and 200 W Caribbean Ave). Instead of simply offering interior elevator or stair access, Google’s design will allow for exterior access to any floor of the building via switchback-style ramps designed for walking, biking, and yes, even skating.

There Could Be Housing, Too

In addition to these innovative new offices, Google also plans to bring housing to the new Sunnyvale campus, hoping to create a mixed-use live-work-play environment—and to help alleviate traffic in the area.

It’s spring, which means home buying season has officially arrived! If you’re on the hunt for a new home, chances are you’ve already thought about the features you’d like to have.

However, one important part of searching for homes is making a distinction between your needs and your wants. Needs are amenities or features you can’t live without, while wants are things that you’d like to have (but they ultimately wouldn’t affect your home buying decision too much).

To begin, come up with a list of priorities. What are some features or amenities that are non-negotiable? Do you need a home with a certain number of bedrooms? Maybe it has to be in a specific location — close to public transit, near a popular attraction, or within a local school district.

Write your priorities down on paper or in a smartphone app to better visualize what you need in a home. Here are some things to consider:

Lot Size

It’s Definitely a Seller’s Market

If you’re thinking of listing your home, you’ve picked the right time! There’s a (kind of) new player coming to town, and it’s (another) new Google campus. And it’s already beginning to affect the housing market in the area.

Previously, demand in San Jose was lower because it wasn’t as convenient to tech centers in Mountain View and Palo Alto… but that’s changing, and so is buyer demand. So those more-affordable prices we were seeing in San Jose are likely to rise!
